Guide

Resize an image to 1400 × 1400 pixels for podcast art and sharp web tiles

Fourteen hundred pixels is a very common minimum for square artwork. It is the lower bound for podcast cover art on the big directories, and it is also a handy size for a crisp web hero tile or a high-density thumbnail. This free online tool converts any picture to exactly 1400 × 1400 in your browser, without an upload and without installing anything.

This page covers where the size is needed, what to do with photos that are not square, how enlarging or shrinking affects quality, and how to choose a format. The 1400 × 1400 target is already filled in for you.

What does converting to 1400 × 1400 mean?

In practice it means changing the picture's pixel dimensions to 1400 wide and 1400 tall, a resize. If you also change the output format, say from PNG to JPG, the tool converts it too. Both happen in one step in the browser, so there is no software to install and no file to send anywhere.

Stretch, Crop, or Fit for a square

Unless your picture is already square, the tool needs to know how to handle the difference between its shape and the 1400 × 1400 box.

Resize modes for a 1400 × 1400 square
ModeWhat happensChoose it when
CropScales to cover the square, trims the overflow, no distortion.A tidy square matters more than keeping the edges.
FitShows the whole picture and fills the gaps with white or black.Nothing may be cut off, such as text or a logo.
StretchForces the picture into the square, changing its proportions. The image is already nearly square.

Keeping text readable on cover art

Podcast and album covers are often seen as tiny thumbnails, so text must survive being shrunk. Large, high-contrast lettering stays legible, while thin or small type disappears. Keep important words away from the edges, because Crop can trim them, and check the Resized preview at a small zoom level before you download.

Step by step: making a 1400 × 1400 image

  1. Add your image by dropping it on the upload area or browsing for it. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and GIF files up to 50 MB work, including photos straight from a phone.
  2. Check the Width and Height boxes. They start at 1400 and 1400, and you can still edit them if you need something slightly different.
  3. Pick a Resize mode. Use Crop for photos and Fit for artwork with text near the edges.
  4. Choose an Output format. JPG is the usual choice for covers, and the quality slider lets you balance sharpness against file size. PNG is better for flat graphics with crisp edges.
  5. Click Resize Image, compare the Original and Resized previews and their details, then click Download Image.

If the destination also limits file size, check the details beside the Resized preview and lower the quality slightly if needed.

Enlarging or shrinking: what to expect

Shrinking a larger image to 1400 × 1400 normally looks excellent because there are more source pixels than needed. Enlarging a smaller one stretches the existing pixels, so edges can look soft. If your original is much smaller than 1400 pixels on a side, look for a larger source before resizing.

Format and file size at 1400 × 1400

A 1400 × 1400 JPG at around 85% quality is often a few hundred kilobytes, depending on how much detail the artwork contains. Flat, simple covers come out much smaller than busy photographs. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so it is best for graphics with sharp edges and solid colors, and it produces noticeably larger files for photos.

If a directory also sets a file size limit, check the details beside the Resized preview and lower the quality slider a little, or use Resize Image to KB afterwards to reach an exact size.

Other sizes

If a directory accepts larger art, 3000 × 3000 is the maximum. For a lighter product-style image try 1000 × 1000, and for icons see 512 × 512.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1400 × 1400 the minimum for podcast artwork?

Major podcast directories commonly ask for square artwork from 1400 × 1400 up to 3000 × 3000 pixels. Always check the current requirements of the platform you are uploading to.

Is this converter free, and does it need an app?

It is free and needs no download or account. It runs in your browser on a computer or phone, and nothing is uploaded.

Will my image be distorted?

Only in Stretch mode. Crop trims the overflow and Fit adds a white or black background, and both keep the original proportions.

What if my image is smaller than 1400 × 1400?

It will be enlarged to the exact size, but enlarging cannot add detail, so the result may look softer than a true high-resolution image.

Which format should I choose?

JPG for photographic covers, PNG for flat graphics with sharp edges, and WebP if the destination accepts it and you want a smaller file.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Reading, resizing, and saving all happen inside your browser, so the picture stays on your device.
